Liberal Leader Mark Carney officially kicked off his election campaign today, pledging tax cuts for the middle class and urging Canadians to come together to strengthen the nation.
Carney met with Governor General Mary Simon at Rideau Hall, requesting the dissolution of Parliament and setting April 28 as the election date.
His campaign launch takes place amid growing concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war and the looming threat of annexation, positioning economic and diplomatic stability as key election issues.
Carney is seeking a strong mandate from voters to navigate Canada through these challenges. However, he faces scrutiny over his decision to run in Ottawa’s Nepean riding, which was vacated following the Liberal Party’s removal of MP Chandra Arya last week.
For his first campaign stop, Carney is headed to Atlantic Canada, where he will address supporters in St. John’s at a rally later tonight.
