As per Odaily, the SlowMist security team has alerted users about a growing wave of social engineering attacks leveraging malware. Cybercriminals are exploiting fake video call links to deceive individuals into downloading harmful scripts designed to extract sensitive data. Recent cases show that attackers first hijack the Telegram accounts of a victim’s friends and then use these accounts to initiate fake video calls, making the deception more convincing.
The SlowMist team advises users to take immediate security measures if they suspect such an attack. The recommended steps include:
- Securing Digital Assets: If a wallet’s private key or recovery phrase was stored on a device, users should transfer their funds without delay.
- Updating Credentials & Enabling 2FA: Passwords for Telegram, email, X, and exchange accounts should be changed immediately, and two-factor authentication (2FA) should be activated to enhance security.
- Performing a Comprehensive Antivirus Scan: Users should deploy trusted antivirus programs like Bitdefender, AVG, or Kaspersky to identify and remove malware.
- Reinstalling the Operating System (if necessary): To ensure complete removal of threats, backing up essential data and resetting the system may be required.
SlowMist urges users to stay alert, avoid engaging with unfamiliar video call links, and safeguard their digital assets against evolving threats.
